Overindulgence in or dependence on an addictive substance, especially alcohol or drugs. It is classified as a mental health disorder but manifests in both physical and emotional symptoms. The severity of and manifestation of symptoms can vary on a case-by-case basis.
Treating Substance Abuse
I provide a wide range of services that include family therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and continuity of care. The effects of substance abuse are felt by the whole family. AA, NA, Al. Anon, and co-dependency peer support groups including alternative organizations to the twelve step groups are highly encouraged. Successful treatment of substance abuse consists of the client’s willingness to accept guidance to the appropriate treatment. Substance abuse often consists of detoxification which requires a higher level of care. I assist the need of the client which may include providing referrals for residential inpatient substance abuse programs, outpatient treatment centers, or a day/night treatment or partial hospitalization program.
